Eisner

Joseph Xaver, comm. b. Grott- kau, Silesia, June 29, 1769; d. Warsaw, Apr. 18, 1854. Son of carpenter and instr. maker; originally intending to be doctor; had le ons in harm, from Forster, after visit to Vienna in 1791 became member of theatre orch. at Brunn, condr. at Lemberg, and 1799 at Warsaw, where he composed 22 operas in 20 years; 1815 founded soc. which resulted in Cons.; works in many styles, popular in Poland; was the teacher of Chopin.
