Martini-Henry Rifle

Small arm combining the breech loading device of Martini and the rifled barrel of Henry. Its peculiar feature was the breech-block, which rotated around an axis at right angles to the axis of the bore, above that axis and in rear of the block. The disadvantages were the difficulty of extracting the empty case after firing, the liability of guillotining the cartridge, and the incomplete closing of the chamber.
