Temporal

(tèm'po-ral.) [From L. temporal is, belonging to time. Having relation or pertaining to worldly or secular concerns:- correlative to spiritual; as, the T. revenues of the church, otherwise called temporalities, and temporals; and the T. power of the popes, or the sovereign power they po e ed as rulers of the former States of the Church.-(Anat.) The T. bones are two irregular bones, one on each side of the head. Comparative anatomy shows them to be, in reality, an a emblage of five bones, the squamous, zygomatic, tympanic, petrous, and mastoid: continuing permanently separate in the cold-blooded cla es of animals; but coalescing in the warm-blooded, with the exception of the tympanic, which remains detached in birds.
