[Named from Cape Ann, in North America.] A mineral cla ed by Dana in his Mica group. Its hardne is 3; sp. gr., 3.169; colour, black; streak, dark green. Composition: Silica, 37-39 to 39:55; alumina, 16-66 to 1673; sesquioxide of iron, 12-07 to 13-74; protoxide of iron, 17:48 to 19:03; pota a, 10-20 to 10-66, with smaller proportions of sesquioxide of manganese, magnesia, .
