Francis (3 son of James Quartly, cattle breeder 1720–93). bapt. 26 Oct. 1764; a famous breeder of North Devon cattle 1794–1836, when he sold the herd and retired; visited by Arthur Young 1796; presented by Bath and West of England soc. with a silver teapot for ploughing 60 acres of land with the double furrow plough in a new district 1801; received from his friends his full length portrait (standing by the side of the cow Cherry) 1850. d.
