[Pref. stern-, and Gr. algos = pain.] Pathol .: Pain in the breast. Applied specifically by Baumes in 1806 to angina pectoris . stern-ar'-chus, s. [Pref. stern-, and Gr. archos =the fundament ( Aga iz ); archō to rule ( Mc Nicoll ).] Ichthy.: A genus of Gymnotide, with eight species, from tropical America. Tail terminating in a small, distinct caudal fin, dorsal rudimentary, teeth small, branch ios teg als four. Some of the species have the snout compre ed and of moderate length, in others it is produced into a long tube. stern-as-pl-dæ, s. pl. [Mod. Lat. sternasp ( is ); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idæ.] Zool .: A family of Tubicole. Annelids having very short bodies, the fore part thick, and with three rows of setse and a corneous shield on the under surface, near the extremity. The sete are locomotive organs.
