Croup

(kr oop,) or CYNANCHE TRACHEAL IS. [Fr. croupe.] (Med). An affection of the throat, accompanied by a peculiar shrillne of voice, wheezing, difficult respiration, . It most usually attacks ye ang children, who are suddenly seized with a difficulty of breathing and other symptoms. Exposure to cold seems to be the general cause of the disease, and it is consequently more prevalent in winter and spring than in summer. It is said to be wonderfully cured in two days, by mixing a teaspoonful of sulphur in a gla of water, and giving a teaspoonful of the mixture every hour. [s. 247]
