[F. semoule, OF. semole = Sp. sémola = Pg. semola, fine flour, wheaten flour. Cf. OHG. semala, simila, fine wheat, flour, bread, MHG. semel, semele, simel, G. semmel (Sw. semla ), wheaten bread, a roll; appar. an independent word, semolina, semolino (sem-ō-lēna, -no), n. [ sen best-known species of outdoor cultivation are S. globife rum (see hen - and - chickens ) and S. tectorum (the houseleek).
