Ajax

(ā'jūks,) the name of two Grecian heroes who fought in the Trojan war. The one, son of Telamon, was king of Salamis, and was distinguished for his valor and beauty. Having unsucce fully contended with Uly es for the armor ofAchilles,he became insane in consequence, and killed himself. The other, son of Oïleus, king of Locris, was, next to Achilles, the most swift-footed of the Greeks. He perished while returning from Troy, through the wrath of Minerva and Neptune, whom he had offended. [s. 15]
