metabolite (metabolit)

[As metabol -y + -ite2.] A product of or substance resulting from metabolism, especially from retrograde metabolism, or catabolism. If by disease or by artificial removal this metabolism is prevented, the incompletely metabolized pigments cir culate in the blood, and staining of skin and mucous membrane, as in Add is on's disease, may take place.
