(arne-kah.) (Bot.) A gen. of hardy, dwarf herbaceous plants, O. Asteraceæ. The Mountain Tobacco (A. montana), a native of Central Europe, has large yellow-rayed flower-heads, and po e es acrid and stimulant properties. It is much used by the homœopathists. The tincture ofA., obtained by macerating the flowers with alcohol, is an excellent external application for bruises. [s. 48]
