(ker’méz) [Arabic, Persian]. The Coc’cus wicis, an insect found on the leaves of various oaks, chiefly on Quer’cus coccif’era (kermes-oak). It furnishes a red pigment which is used as a dyestuff. k.-mineral, antimony oxy sulphid.
