(mi’el-in) (Gr. pvedds marrow]. 1. The medullary sheath, or white substance of Schwann; the soft sheath of matter inclosing the axis-cylinder of anerve. 2. Any one of a certain group of lipoid substances found in various normal and pathological ti ues and differing from fats in being doubly refractive.
