Chauncy, or Chauncey (chan'si or chân'si), Charles. Born in Hertfordshire, England, 1592: died Feb. 19, 1672. The second president of Harvard College. After having held a profe orate first of Hebrew, then of Greek, in the University of Cambridge, he became vicar of Ware in 1627. He emigrated to New England in 1638, became a pastor in College in 1654.
