(h6-tel’), nm. [« F. hdtel, inn, ete., > ME. hostel, E. hostel, q. v.] 1. A house for entertaining strangers or travelers; an inn; especially, an inn of some style and pretensions. See imm.—2. A private city dwelling; particularly, a large town mansion. [French usage. ] This venerable nobleman [the Comte de Florac] has his chamber looking out into the garden of his hotel...
