NAVE

(Gr. vadi, a temple, or vav;, a ve el.) In Architecture, that part of a temple enclosed by the walls. The part in front of it was called pronaos, and that in the rear /mslicum. In modern architecture, it Is the middle part or alley of a church, between the aisles or wings. [s. 823]
