The blue ra contains carbonate of soda mixed with Rochelle salt, which is a double tartrate of potash and soda. The white paper contains tartaric acid. On mixing the contents of the two papers in water effervescence occurs. The powder should be taken before breakfast, as its aperient effect is soon produced. [Refer to Constipation.] [s. 406]
