The genus Tan acetum, especially Tan acetum vulgare (Chrysanthemum vulgare) and its leaves and tops; also Potentilla an serin a, Senecio jacobaea, Achillea mille folium, etc. [a, 35.] Common t. A volatile oil obtained from tan acetum (3d def.). The Fr. Cod. directs the tops to be used, the Ru . Ph. the flowers, the Pru . Ph. the flowers and herb, and the Gr. Ph. the flowering herb. It consists of 1 per cent, of a terpene (Ci Hi 6), boiling at 155 to 160 C., 70 per cent, of an aldehyde (CioHjuO), boiling at 195 to 196 C., and 26 per cent, of an alcohol (C10H 18O), boiling at 203 to 205 C.
