Crusades

lasted from the end of the nth to the last half of the 13th century. Some expeditions that were called Crusa<.les were really only skirmishes with pirates who infected the Mediterranean Sea. Peter the Hermit started the first real Crusade in 1093. There were eight altogether. The capture of Acre in 1291 by the Sultan of Egypt put an end to the kingdom founded by the Crusaders.
