[Named after Peter Paiv, a Dutch botanist, once profe or at Leyden.] Bot.: A genus of Hippocastanese. Middle-sized deciduous trees or shrubs, like horse-chestnuts, but with the leaves and the flowers smaller, the petals erect and narrow, the fruit smooth.
