Arum

(ā'rum.) (Bot.) A gen. of herbaceous perennial plants, O. Araceæ, with fleshy tubers, some of them yielding starch in sufficient abundarce to admit of a kind of arrow-root being prepared from them, as the Lords and Ladies (A. maculatum) of the island of Portland. Some species are poisonous. [s. 50]
