(an'ōd.) [From Gr. ano, up, and odos, a way.] (Chem.) A term made use of in speaking of the phenomena of electrolytic decomposition. It denotes the surface at which the current, according to the common phraseology, enters the electrolyte or body undergoing decomposition. Oxygen, chlorine, and acids are then evolved. It is opposed to the kath ode, or surface at which the current leaves the electrolyte. [s. 34]
