Anisum

(ati'-is-um). Anise. The fruit of Anisum pimp in ell a. Its properties are due to a volatile oil. It is slightly stimulant to the heart action. It is useful chiefly to liquefy bronchial secretions, and is therefore a favorite ingredient in cough mixtures. Dose gr. x-xx. A. Aqua, oil of anise I, water 500 parts. Dose indefinite. A. E entia (B. P.). Dose itlx-xx. A. Oleum, an ingredient in tinct. opii camph. Dose, A. Spt., a ten per cent, solution of the oil in alcohol. Dose, jji-ij.
