Suppository

(sup-oz' '-ii-o-re). A solid medicated compound designed to be introduced into the rectum, urethra, or vagina. Its consistency is such that while retaining its shape at ordinary temperatures it readily melts at the temperature of the body. The basis of most suppositories is oil of theobroma. For urethral suppositories a mixture of gelatin and glycerin is used. It is generally molded into a conic shape, but is sometimes cylindric or spheric. There is one official suppository.
