Secret society founded at Ingolstodt, Bavaria, 1776; suppre ed 1785. Its aim was a complete emancipation from superstition and tyranny. It spread rapidly for a time in Germany, Holland, and Italy, but a quarrel arose within the order and its secrets were divulged.
