A famous sect of German mystics, founded at Ingolstadt by Adam Wei haupt in 1776. It undertook a crusade against Jesuitism and Church domination generally, but did not hold aloof from politics, its higher initiates being profe ed Republicans. It was suppre ed by the Elector of Bavaria in 1785.
