xanthin

(zan’thin) (Gr. ξανθός yellow: named from the yellow color of its nitrate]. A white, am or- hous leukoma in, C,H,N,O,, from most of the body ti ues and fluids, urinary calculi, and certain plants. It is formed by the decomposition of nuclein by acids, and is insoluble in cold water, but freely soluble in dilute acid and alkaline solu- tions.
