FREE CHURCH OF ENGLAND

an Episcopal body separate from the Established Church of England, founded in 1844 as a counteracting influence to the tractarian movement. The churches belonging to it, though not numerous, are widely spread. The service is practically identical with that of the Evangelical party of the National Church. The Church is governed by two bishops, and has about 30 churches.
