an Episcopal organization founded 1844, an outcome of the Oxford Tractarian movement. Its promoters sought to secure evangelical services on strictly Prot. lines, wherever needed, without alliance with the state. The first church planted was at Bridge town, Devon, by the Rey. J. Shore.
