Bran

(bran.) [Celt., ordure.] The skins or husks of grain, especially wheat, separated from the flour by a sieve or bolter. It is used as food for horses and cattle, in the manufacture of starch, and in the form of warm poultices for certain abdominal complaints. [s. 112]
