Seed-coats of the grain with whatever may adhere to them when separated by milling. It is a by-product of the milling proce , and furnishes a valuable cla of cattle foods, the most important of which, wheat bran, is usually meant. Brans are almost always richer in protein matter than the grains from which they were made. They lack somewhat in digestibility but are nearly always palatable.
