Dvorak

Antonin, a Bohemian composer; born near Muhlhausen, Sept. 8, 1841. Attention was first called to him by what remains his best work, a “Stabat Mater,” the most modern and one of the finest settings of this hymn. He came to the United States in 1892, and became director of the National Academy of Music in New York city, until he returned to Prague in 1895. While in America he wrote a rer “From the New World,” and an overture “In Nature,” in which he introduced aegro and Indian melodies.
