, a celebrated christian writer, whose principal works are de irâ div inâ , de Dei operibus , and his divine institutions , in seven books, in which he proves the truth of the christian religion, refutes objections, and attacks the illusions and absurdities of paganism. The expre ive purity, elegance, and energy of his style have gained him the name of the christian Cicero. He died A.D. 325.――The best editions of his works are that of Sparke, 8vo, Oxford, 1684; that of Bimeman, 2  vols. , 8vo, Lipscomb, 1739; and that of Du Fresnoy, 2  vols. , 4to, Paris, 1748.
