LUCIUS CELIUS FIRM I AN US, (lāk-tan's hus,) a Father of the Church, B. in Africa abt. 290 A. D. He became a teacher of rhetoric at Nicomedia. He is reputed the most eloquent and scholarly of the Latin Fathers, and received from St. Jerome the appellation of the " Christian Cicero." His chief work is a defence of Christianity, entitled Institutiones Divine. D. abt. 325. [s. 522]
