klOv, n. a pungent, aromatic spice, the unexpanded flower-bud (so called from its resemblance to a nail) of the clove-tree, a native of the Moluccas. [Sp. clavo —L. clavus a nail Cloven, klOv'n, pa.p. of Cleave, to divide, or adj. divided parted. ad/s. Cloven-footed, ClOVen hoofed. having the foot parted or divided. Clove-pink, klfiv'-pingk, «. the clove gillyflower or carnation pink, which has an odour like that of cloves.
