Biscuit

(bis'kit.) [Fr.; fromL. bis,and cuit, fromcuiro, to bake.] (Naut.) A kind of hard, dry, unfermented bread, used on shipboard;- otherwise termed sea-biscuit orhard-tack. Cabin-bread is a superior kind of the same article. (Ceramics.) A term given to porcelain and earthenware, after it has been baked in the oven, and before it receives the glaze;-in this state it absorbs water.-(Sculpt.) A kind of baked but unglazed porcelain, of which groups of miniature statuary are made. [s. 95]
