Concrete

—A mixture of Portland cement, sand and some coarse material, such as gravel, broken stone, etc.; much used for foundations, heavy masonry and engineering structures generally. Moulds or forms are constructed of timber to the desired outlines, and the concrete, being mixed with water, is placed within the mould until it is full, when, after a proper interval for setting or drying, the boards of the form are removed, leaving the structure a solid.
