(hos’-pzt-al) [hospes, a guest]. A building for the care and treatment of sick or infirm persons. H. Gangrene, a contagious, phagedenic gangrene occasionally attacking wounds or open sores. It is confined mainly to military hospitals, and is of microbic origin. 316
