Myrrh

(mur) [uippa, myrrh]. A gum-resin obtained from Commiphora myrrh a (U. S. P.) or Balsa mod end ron myrrh a (B. P.), a tree of the natural order Burse race^e. Myrrh contains a volatile oil, a resin (myrrh in), and a gum, and is used as a stimulant tonic in dyspepsia, pulmonary affections, chlorosis, and amenorrhea. It is employed as a local application in various forms of stomatitis. Dose gr. x-xxx (0.65-2.0). Tinctura myrrhae. Dose rt\x-xxx (0.65-2.0). Myrrh is also an ingredient of Mistura ferri compos it a, Pilulae aloes et myrrhae, and Tinctura aloes et myrrhae. 428
