myrrh

(mur) [L. myr’rha; Gr. μύρρα]. A gumresin from Commiph’ora myr’rha, an old-world burseraceous tree, containing a volatile oil, the resin myrrh in, and a gum. It is stimulant and astringent, and is used in dyspepsia, chronic bronchitis, leukorrhea, amenorrhea, and as a local application in stomatitis, carious teeth, and inflammation of the gums. Dose, 5-30 er. (0.333- 2gm.); of tincture, 10-30 min. (0.666-2 c.c.).
