Seventeenth O. T. book, describing the elevation of a Jewish maiden, Hada ah, to be queen of Ahasuerus, commonly identified with Xerxes. It has no mention of God or of prayer. Six additional chapters in the Septuagint are regarded by Protestants as apocryphal.
