HUNS

Mongolian race who invaded Europe in IV. cent. A.D. They waged war with the Goths then inhabiting Central Europe, and drove them S. into Spain, Italy, and Balkan Peninsula, thus indirectly causing destruction of Rom. Empire. Under Attila (¢.v.), they founded a large empire, which after his death was disintegrated. All trace of them in Europe has now been lost, although at one time they reached as far W.as Gaul. Probably akin to the White H’s who invaded Persia in V. cent.
