EPIGLOTTIS

Sp., epiglotis. 1. A thin leaf-shaped lamella of yellow nbro-cartilage, placed behind the tongue and in front of the superior opening of the larynx, which it closes during deglutition. Its free extremity is broad and rounded; its attached end is narrow and is connected to the receding angle between the two alse of the thyreoid cartilage by the thyreo-epiglottic ligament, and to the posterior O, no; O2, not; O3, whole; Th, thin; Th2, the; U, like oo in too; [s. 727]
