(de-mokre-tus,) a Greek philosopher,B. in Thrace, bet. 490 and 460 B. c., is said to have been a disciple of Leu cippus. After extensive travels, he settled down in his native place, Abdera, and devoted himself to the study of the natural sciences. D. B. c. 370. D.'s system of philosophy is known as the Atomic System.
