Ripley, George

(1802-1880), was the chief promoter of the Brook Farm experiment at Roxbury, Ma ., from 1844 to 1846. He edited the Harbinger, a Fourierite organ, from 1844 to 1848, and was a istant editor of ‘‘ The American Cyclopedia.” Ile was literary editor of the New York Zribune from 1847 to 18S0. He had an extensive literary knowledge, and was a severe critic.
