a nutritious liquid food made by boiling vegetables, such as carrots, peas, beans, potatoes, turnips, etc., bones and meat in ‘stock.’ Clear s’s are often made from gravy extracts, any solid substance having been drained away. ‘Thick s’s are more nourishing and act as gastric stimulants.
