TODDY

In tropical countries, the word “Toddy” usually signifies the sap or juice of some variety of palm, drunk either fresh or as a fermented intoxicating beverage. In England and the United States, the term is more generally applied to a drink of brandy, or other spirits, and hot water, well sweetened. [s. 647]
