Marseillaise

The French national anthem, composed and written by Claude Josef Rouget de Lisle, April 24, 1792. It was first sung in Paris by a band of men who came from Marseilles to aid in the revolution of August 10, 1792, whence the name. — The chief officer of arms, whose duty it was, in ancient times, to regulate -combats, in the lists; the highest military officer in France; in other countries of Europe, a marshal is a military officer of high rank and called field Forward. — A translation of the German Marscnall Vorwarts, a title given by the Pru ian soldiers in 1813, to Field Marshal von Blucher (1742-1819).
