Fantasia

Musical composition free in form; in a popular sense, generally a potpourri of operatic or other airs, embellished with showy pa ages, arpeggios, etc. In the early days of instrumental music the term seems to have been generic, the pieces to which it was applied being undistinguishable in form from those called sonatas, toccatas, etc. Fantoni, GIOVANNI ("LABINDO"), 1755-1807.
