(fan-tah'ze-ah.) [ It., a fancy.] (Mus.) A species of composition supposed to be struck off in the heat of the imagination, and in which the composer is allowed to give free range to his ideas, and full scope to his fancy, untrammelled by scientific rules. [s. 355]
